About TirthAtlas

TirthAtlas brings important Hindu temples together in one place. Each temple has its own page with its significance, history and legend, and a clear guide to getting there: the nearest airport and railhead, the road, and the final stretch, whether that is a short walk, a mountain trek or a helicopter ride.

Where the information comes from

Each page draws on published sources, such as Wikipedia, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap, and lists them at the bottom of the page. Research is assisted by software that collects and organises these sources. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and are credited to their photographers under their free licences.

Timings, opening dates and registration rules change often. Always confirm with the temple before you travel.
